Dot Welding a Steel Rod

This rod has one or more small pits or crevices. The operator is using an electric resistance type welder, known as a "dot welder", to weld small steel spheres as a repair. The technique is desirable because the preplate grind or polish on the rod did not have to remove as much parent material.
